I've worked at a major bank in AI and innovation strategy, functional finance, capital market and risk management. I understand financial services, tech, AI and business. How can I use my background and experience to break into tech / PM?

Hi IGotAnOffer team,

Your content has been one of the most useful resources in my research, so I’d love your perspective.

My ultimate goal: become a PM in tech, ideally in AI, and later move into VC. I’m also open to other roles along the way.

My edge: I understand how financial services works in a highly regulated environment, and I see tech buying from the inside, since my company is a customer of many of the vendors I’d want to work for.

My questions:

  1. Which tech roles could my background fit that I might be overlooking?

  2. With this edge, what are the strongest routes into tech? I’m considering financial services focused roles at companies like Databricks and Anthropic.

  3. My real passion is PM, but I worry it would be a complete career change where my experience doesn’t compound. Is it smarter to go for PM directly, or enter through a financial services role first?

  4. If I go for PM, which parts of my background should I highlight, and what gaps should I close first?

Thank you, I’d appreciate any guidance!!
