I got an L6 level offer at Amazon and the only professional coaching I did in preparation was with Yogesh. Here are specific things he did that offered tremendous value:
1. Preparation - He obviously has experience in conducting interviews and was able to guide the coaching specifically to me after understanding my weaknesses and answering questions I had not even thought to ask. This process helped set my mentality on how to correctly approach the interview.
2. Active Listening - He answered specific questions (I asked a lot) with answers that made sense. A lot of people do not know how to answer specific questions, and they give generalized answers or a non-answer.
3. Knowledge - He had a lot of know how on the process with Amazon, and taught me the degree of depth that is required in articulating a story in a behavioral interview. He did this by questioning some of my mock interview responses and telling me clearly what an interviewer may think and how to improve the content and delivery of my stories.
3. Opinion vs Fact - He gave a lot of specific advice, and at times when he wanted me to think further or avoid a potential pitfall, he clearly mentioned this is an opinion that may help, rather than forcing all opinion as fact. All of his opinions were very valuable.
4. Clear Communication - He was very easy to understand by giving advice in bullet point formats (Ex. There are 3 things I would suggest: #1 - Start doing X, #2 Do not do Y, #3 - Keep doing Z).
My personal advice:
1. The bar for Amazon interviews is high. Do not go easy into this interview. It will require a significant amount of preparation and a good coach can help you tactically as well as mentally throughout the process.
2. Whether I had or had not received the offer, the insights were valuable that would have helped me in my career in this interview OR in future interviews. This is just good knowledge that the faster you figure out, the sooner you can unlock bigger opportunities.
