Moving from Front-End Development to Product Management: How Realistic Is the Transition?

I’m a front-end developer with 10 years of experience, and I’m considering transitioning into Product Management.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a strong product mindset. I’ve analyzed customer feedback, claims, and product metrics to understand pain points and identify opportunities to improve product value. I’ve also had end-to-end ownership, from contributing to OKR definition and product design to monitoring performance after features are released to production.

Although my background is primarily technical, I’ve consistently been involved in product-related decisions beyond implementation.

For those who have made a similar transition, how viable is it to move from Front-End Development into Product Management? What gaps would I likely need to address, and how is this type of background typically perceived when applying for PM roles?
